First opened in 1928 as Pan American Field, the Miami International Airport has grown to cover over 3,200 acres, and is one of the busiest airports in the world. Operated by the Miami-Dade County Aviation Department. The airport is home to thirteen duty free shops, a unisex barbershop, locker facilities, two pharmacies, five ATM machines, a full service bank, a U.S. post office branch, and foreign currency exchanges. A number of restaurants and fast food establishments ease waiting time, including an Italian restaurant, Cuban restaurant, Sushi bar, Juice bar, two ice cream shops, and a Burger King. If you've got a long flight ahead of you, and smallish kids, you might want to consider grabbing some BK to go to offer instead of airplane food. The Miami International Airport Hotel, right on site, includes soundproof rooms, a full-service restaurant, health club, racquetball court, pool, and Jacuzzi. The following car rental firms are also present in the airport: Avis, Budget, Dollar, Globetrotter, Hertz, National, Royal, and Value.
