The Miami Science Museum, originally built in the 1950's, offers hands-on exhibits to excite children of all ages.
The Planetarium has several shows throughout the day, at 12:30pm, 2pm & 4pm. On weekends, shows begin every hour starting at 11am.
The Space Gallery includes rotating exhibits about various science topics. The observatory has a live star show the first Friday of the month at 8pm, followed by telescope viewing from 8:30pm-10pm. Laser shows are offered the first Friday of the month starting at 9pm. You may find the Planetarium holds more interest for older children.
The Wildlife Center is home to tortoises, parrots, snakes, and lizards. Don't miss the birds of prey (this center acts as a rescue facility for injured birds, so you can adopt a bird to help nurse it back to health). When we visited, we observed a Raptor feeding (chicks!) which received mixed reviews from our small companions.
Live science demos may include phreezing physics, slime time, shocking science, and animal encounters. Check daily schedule for demonstrations when you enter the museum.
Birthday Parties at the museum include science demonstration of your choice, science gift for birthday child, private party room for 3 hours, admission to all Museum galleries, staff for assistance, and party invitations. Party givers must be museum members. Call 305.646.4245 or check out the website for more information.
Family Memberships are worthwhile if you plan to visit the Museum often. Especially attractive is the added membership to many other museums, zoos, and aquariums worldwide. If you travel and include museums in your trip, joining is a good idea.
Miami Science Museum offers a summer camp program as well.
