about Mill B North Fork Trail to Overlook:

The Mill B North Fork Trail to Overlook is a medium to hard 2.6 mile (round trip) hike with an elevation gain of 800 feet. The magic of this hike is in the rocky outcroppings, with drops of almost 600 feet that offer spectacular views of Big Cottonwood Canyon.

The trail starts out steep and sunny, but you might feel a bit of a chill as you wander along Big Cottonwood Creek for a distance, and wander through the shade of the forest canopy. You may encounter wildlife, including deer or hummingbirds, along the way. At a slow pace, and with rest stops along the way, even younger members of the family can easily do this hike.

Restroom facilities are available at the additional parking area located at the bottom of the "S-turn", which is also where the trailhead for the Mill B Interpretive Trail is.

tips:

Take plenty of drinking water, sunscreen, a snack, and make sure to wear good hiking shoes. Salt Lake City watershed restrictions apply in Big Cottonwood Canyon. If you're unsure of what the rules are, visit www.fs.fed.us or www.slcgov.com.

getting there:

To reach the trailhead, drive 4.4 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon on Utah 190. Park in the small lot located on the right (southeast) side of the road in the second, upper curve of the "S-Turn." Head up the stairs near the information signs of the parking lot, and cross the busy highway. A trail sign is on the opposite side of the road. Additional parking is available at the lower parking area, which can be reached by taking the small road that branches right (southeast) from the lower curve of the "S-Turn."
