Rated a very easy hike, the
Mill Creek Canyon Boardwalk offers beginners the opportunity to explore the canyon without getting in over their heads. The
Boardwalk is 0.10 mile long one-way, and has very little elevation change. It takes approximately seven minutes to hike it one-way. A
fishing dock is located on the south side of the road, and the parking area is just past the fishing dock. A vaulted toilet is available near the parking area. The
boardwalk follows Mill Creek and, at the end, turns into a dirt path. When heading into the wilderness, it's always smart to bring a daypack stocked with bug spray, sunscreen, water, tissue, and snacks. It's also fun to bring along a field guide or two and some binoculars so
wildlife viewing opportunities aren't missed. The canyons are great places to see birds, moose, butterflies, wildflowers, deer, and much more. Always make sure wildlife viewing is done from a safe distance; use the binoculars to get a closer look. No bikes, horses, or motorized use is allowed on the trail.
Dogs are welcome and can be off-leash on odd-numbered days, but must be leashed on even-numbered days. On all days, dogs must be kept on leashes at trailheads and developed sites including parking areas. It costs $2.25/car to use
Mill Creek Canyon. The fee is collected at a booth as cars exit the canyon.
Annual passes are available through Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation (call 801.483.5473).
