Thousands of people visit and use the beautiful, historic Central Library every day. The library boasts a vast collection of books, magazines, newspapers, and media materials, serves as the resource library for the state, and is the administrative headquarters for the Milwaukee Public Library system. Computers and internet access are available for public use.
The Central Library opened its doors in 1878. The building is a mix of French and Italian Renaissance architectural styles. Tours of the historic building are offered on Saturdays at 1:30pm; meet in the rotunda. Call 414.286.TOUR for an appointment if sign language interpretation is required or if you'd like to schedule a tour outside of the regular tour time.
