About Minneapolis Institute of Arts
The Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) offers families a treasure trove of cultural opportunities.
The museum's collection comprises more than 100,000 objects from diverse cultural traditions spanning 5,000 years of world history. The galleries are spacious, with plenty of room for children to roam, with or without the kid-centric audio tours for rent at the Welcome Desk.
Beyond the galleries, MIA offers a wide range of ongoing programming and events for both young and old, from from Treasure Hunts to Family Sundays, special daylong events that feature activities, performances, and free audio tours.
A bright and airy Family Center on the main floor - between the gift shop and cafe - provides a place to leave strollers, relax, play on computers, have a snack, and nurse the baby.
Classes: The education program here is absolutely topnotch. Accredited art teachers help students ages four to 16 explore the galleries and make their own art in engaging moderately-priced classes. Check the website for complete class listings.

Getting There
Bordered by Stevens and 3rd Avenues, and 24th and 26th Streets. The museum shares its outer lobby with the Children's Theatre, and is fronted by a wide semi-circular drive that allows for door-to-door dropoffs in inclement weather. There is some street parking here, and free off-street options include two levels of ramp parking and a surface lot, all located at 25th Street, just past the museum entrance.
