Each weekend of this charming festival features a different theme, plus more than a dozen stages of live entertainment, 275 merchant booths, hundreds of "street" performers, daily armored jousts, and special feasts (reservations required).
Head over first thing in the morning for the daily opening ceremony, or take in the daily parade in the afternoon. The offerings (and the costumes of some attendees!) can lean toward bawdy, but a family atmosphere prevails, with the exception of a few performances which are clearly denoted on the daily schedule.
The beautiful 22-acre 16th-century village set up for the fair is located just south of Shakopee, with signage along Highway 169 to help fairgoers find the spot, and plenty of free parking. Leashed dogs and cats are admitted ($10/day) with proof of current shots; they are invited to daily pet costume contests and art activities! Note: There are no water fountains on-site, so be prepared to shell out $2/bottle, or head to the First Aid station to refill bottles at the cooler there. Tickets can be purchased online and in advance. Also open Labor Day.
