Montessori Community School (formerly Education Alternatives) offers classes for children aged 18 months to 14 years through a comprehensive Montessori curriculum that encompasses Toddler, Early Childhood (including a dual language Spanish/English class) programs, a Lower and Upper Elementary school, and a Middle School. Light-filled classrooms and hands-on materials give children the opportunity to explore freely. The school strives to provide a learning environment that promotes self-worth and helps students develop a strong sense of individual responsibility and community. Specialty classes include art, dance, Spanish language, and music. An Afternoon Enrichment Program is also available, providing afterschool activities for students.

Our 3-yr-old kids are the same age and don't have older siblings. They have flourished socially in the multi-age classroom, with their "favorite friends"--the older kids who look out for them! Our kids love their classroom teachers and they are learning to be self-directed and to concentrate on the Montessori materials. The Montessori environment is one that promotes respect, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding. We are so impressed with the MCS community--the teachers, the parents, the administration--and so happy to be a part of it!

This is our fourth year at MCS and we love it. Our kids have gone through Lower Elementary to Middle School and we have been continually impressed and pleased with their time there. The teachers and staff are great and the children learn through a vast array of experiences in addition to their classroom lessons. We highly recommend this school.

Although I love the Montessori ideology, this school is a bit to 'crunchy/hippie' for our taste. We are fairly liberal people, but we did not fit in.

After investigating several Private schools in SLC, we decided on Montessori Community School. I highly recommend this environment for children. They welcomed my child with open arms. This is my daughter's 3rd year at MCS, she is in first grade. The children are empowered to do things for themselves, and they love it. The rooms are clean and inviting. I have made many new friends in the montessori community. My child loves her teachers and classmates. They study art, science, zoology, math, language, sensorial, practical life and so much more plus dance and music. Check it out, you too will love MCS and so will your child!!

I have my daughter attend the school this year and truly glad that she went to school here. The school and teachers focus all on the students and created a remarkable learning and play environment. Amazing teachers and amazing staff! My son has been with the Montessori school for three years now and has loved everyday spent there. The school and teachers have done so much for my son. I have been so very lucky to have my son attend and recommend this wonderful school to all my friends and family! If you want your child to learn and have a wonderful time doing so, put them in Montessori Community School of Salt Lake!

MCC is a terrific place; our daughter has really thrived there. I have found her teachers to offer helpful perspectives on issues in her terrible threes and it has always felt like a partnership for the benefit of our kid.

Our daughter is 2 and a half, and loves the Montessori. Her teachers are well schooled in the Montessori way (even if we are not) and provide a warm and supportive environment for all kinds of learning. We particularly appreciate the way they have taught our daughter to negotiate with other kids using words and talking about how she feels. We are very excited to have her in the dual immersion Spanish program next year, and I haven't been able to find another program in the city that does this.

We have had three children attend the Montessori Community School during the past 20 years. We have been with them in 3 different locations. Our youngest has been at the school for 8 years. This school has been wonderful. They understand the needs of children. They understand that some children learn in different ways. This is a school that creates an enviornment where children feel safe and feel like they can explore and learn and thrive. I strongly recommend this school. The class sizes are small, the atmosphere is inviting and the teachers are sensitive to the needs of the individual.

We considered several schools for our child, chose MCS, and have not regretted it for a second. It is a diverse community with fantastic teachers, helpful staff, happy, well mannered children, and engaged parents. The school is clean and well-maintained. If you don't know about the Montessori method it's worth checking out. If you like it, visit MCS - you won't regret it.

I picked this school for my Godchild to attend and she is in her second year of pre school and really enjoys it. Fund raisers are going to happen in any private school and that is just fine, that way they can improve the school, offer scholarships and do many other things that help benefit your child -or they can just raise the fees each year.
This is a great school with caring teachers and fun programs. The building has a great location and facilities with a large indoor gym, kitchen and plenty of playground equipment outside, good sized classrooms. They always have a good community service project going on and the field trips are a blast. The classroom maintains such a calm learning atmosphere.

Both of our kids are in MCS' Early Childhood program after previously attending theToddlers program. We are moving out of Utah next year and will miss the school tremendously.
After a great deal of research, we chose Montessori Community School and couldn't be happier. It's a great facility, fantastic teachers, wonderful use of the Montessori method! Our child loves going to school each day!

Highly recommend this school! My son is in the Montessori middle school,and has attended since 2nd grade. His Montessori experience has not only advanced his academics, but also taught him 'life-learning' and community service. I only wish this school went all the way through 12th grade. My 24yr old married daughter attended this very same school, as a child, and is now looking forward to sending our granddaughter there.(she's not quite a year old, so need to wait a bit!) I can't imagine any child not loving a Montessori school experience,if given the opportunity.

This school is amazing! The teachers have years, if not decades, of Montessori experience. The classrooms are bright, warm, and Montessori through and through. Preschoolers get to take music, dance, and art. Some classes are Spanish immersion. They go on field trips regularly. The classes are diverse for the type of school it is, and the school values and respects all kinds of families. The curriculum shows an appreciation for diversity as well. The kids are guided by loving, caring, knowledgeable teachers. My daughter is 4 and 1/2 and she will go to kindergarten knowing how to count to 100 and being able to read, but there is no pressure to be academic or perform. The teachers foster a love of learning and an inner sense of direction and that is why she does these things. My family moved here from out of state, and we have met so many wonderful people through this community school.

The previous poster is obviously talking about another school because the comments are way off mark. MCS does not have continuous fundraisers. Many of the teachers have been with the school for 10 - 20 years and were not fired from other schools. The classrooms are Montessori through and through. Please do not post incorrect information as this is not useful for other parents. I am wondering if you are talking about the right school? Montessori Community School is located at 2416 E 1700 S.

Probably one of the worst schools we have ever enrolled in. Continuous fund raisers, odd-un Montessori like class rooms and teachers who have been fired from other Montessori schools in the valley. Other parents like myself have left for better environments and educational opportunities.

I live in Sugarhouse and work at the University of Utah. Very convenient location off of Foothill. New playground equipment for all ages, huge gym, beautiful classrooms. Teachers and staff are truly caring. The teachers are all Montessori trained and certified and the classrooms are based on Montessori philosophy. What I love best about the school is the other parents and children enrolled at the school. Very nice community of folk! We highly recommend it to new families moving into Salt Lake who will be affiliated with the University of Utah and the University Hospitals.

I have two children attending Montessori Community School, one in the Toddler class and another in the dual language Early Childhood class. After significant research, I chose this school and am extremely happy with that choice. Outstanding teachers, wonderful facilities and a warm, happy, environment that respects and inspires my children. Both are thriving at the school and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality education that nurtures the whole child.
