Ice cream is mixed to order with flips and fanfare at this San Diego ice cream institution. Coronado's MooTime Creamery offers 50s diner-style vinyl booths, kitschy décor, and the aura of an old-fashioned soda shop. The smooth, rich ice cream is made fresh daily, and waffle cones are hand-rolled.
Flavors range from coconut and stracciatella to Silly Vanilly, an eye-popping blue colored vanilla made with kids in mind. Children will also thrill to the variety of candy mix-ins -- Nerds, sour gummy worms, and Nutrageous, just to name a few.
Three sizes of ice cream are available: the Mini Moo is $3, the Little Moo is $3.50, and the Big Moo is $4. Prices include one candy mix-in. MooTime also sells shakes, sundaes, and ice cream pies and cakes made to order.

tips:
Though it's not listed on the menu, ask for a kid-size Mini Moo for half the price.
getting there:
Take the Coronado Bridge onto the island and make a left onto Orange Avenue. MooTime is on Orange between 10th Street and C Avenue.
