about Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden:

This oft-overlooked historic site hosts numerous kid-friendly party and crafting experiences.

Owned and maintained by the Colonial Dames of America, Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden was originally a carriage house for a 23-acre country estate. The house is furnished with historical objects.

The Children's Corner invites kids to dress up in historical clothing, pretend to make turtle soup in a Dutch oven, fill up a bed warmer with coals, and wash linens for guests at the Mount Vernon Hotel. The mini Historic Kitchen features reproduction artifacts for a fun, hands-on history experience.

Neighborhood History Camp (for ages nine to 12) runs for one or two weeks each July and offer kids a chance to learn about city history through crafts, storytelling, field trips, and role-playing activities.

Family programs abound, and include an annual interactive musical play, Fare for All. Activity packs with games and projects geared towards young children are always available during regular hours to help families enjoy the museum together.

Birthday party options include an interactive Museum tour, a play session with 19th-century toys, tea with a costumed Museum Educator, or a candle-making craft.

Family Membership ($80/year) includes free admission, 10% discount in the store, and free or discounted admission to special events.Major credit cards are accepted.
