About Moving Arts of Mt. Airy (MaMa)
This sunny little studio is part of a small, but increasingly vibrant, commericial district in West Mt. Airy. Moving Arts of Mt. Airy, or MaMa, offers a wide variety of affordable dance and movement classes for all ages. Mama is known for the caliber of its teachers, who are award-winning and highly-trained.
For the younger set (up to age three), there are parent/child yoga, dance, and gymfoolery classes. Classes for older children (up to age 18) include the basics, like pre-ballet, creative movement, and modern dance, but MaMa's strength is offering classes that are hard to find anywhere else. These include fencing, capoeira, hip hop, belly dance, salsa, and nature yoga.
Participants may sign up for an entire session (offered year-round), but drop-ins are welcome in most classes. It is a good idea to call first, though.
The studio is also availalbe for birthday parties with the option of having a fencing, dance, capoeira, or yoga leader. In season, parties can also be held in the beautiful landscaped terrace.
Getting There
Just off Lincoln Drive at the corner of Carpenter Lane and Greene Street, across from the Big Blue Marble Bookstore. 12 minutes from Center City. Cross street is Carpenter Lane.

- As a new Dad, I was very happy to find this class in my neighbourhood, and on Sundays 10:30am-11:30am. The front studio is being leased to an environmental shop, but the yoga class is out the back studio and accessible from the driveway. The yoga with baby class is open to moms or dads along with their babes (up to and including crawlers); it's been great for my tight muscles from working in the office all week and I've had a chance to catch up with my baby girl, while giving my wife a break (coffee with a friend at High Point cafe around the corner, a long bubble bath, whatever she's had no time for all week). The studio will be installing an A/C unit for the summer, I've been told, so I'll keep going! It's definitely helping all of us.

[Submitted by Richard in Philly5/01/08 - It's a studio with open space for the children to move around. My children enjoyed their time there and the healthy exercise the class provided. I enjoyed yoga classes taught by an amazing instructor and the fact that my children were having fun.
