Like all great cities, Philadelphia has its share of murals that decorate buildings and neighborhoods. The works done by the
Mural Arts Program (MAP) -
the nation's largest mural program - stand out for their beauty, uniqueness, and oversized themes.
Since 1984,
MAP has created
over 2,700 murals and works of public art, which are now part of Philadelphia's civic landscape and a source of inspiration to the thousands of residents and visitors who encounter them.
MAP engages more than 100 communities each year in the transformation of neighborhoods through the mural-making process.
Guided
Mural Arts trolley tours through different areas of the city are offered throughout the year. Regular trolley tours and walking tours also depart from
Independence Visitor Center; check the
Mural Arts Program website for details and a complete schedule.
