I can't say enough good things about Murray Callan's Swim School. I was fortunate enough to have learned to swim at the school in PB and even had a few lessons with Murray himself. My son, just 3, began lessons at 7m and is now swimming the long length of the pool and lifting his head for breaths. My daughter, 9m, just began lessons and 3 lessons in she is already putting her head in the water. We have had Marci as an instructor the whole 2.5 years and she is fabulous, so loving and stern with my kids that they both enjoy their lessons as well as get work done.

Amazing swim school in PB & Carlsbad! I have visited both facilities & I'm amazed with them. After 3 classes, my 3 year old is going under the water to retrieve toys! Can't beat that! BTW, he's gone to 3 swim schools in San Diego and they have the best techniques! Best tip I received from them? "they are not going to have goggles if they fall in a pool, why would you teach them to swim using goggle?" Brilliant!

My son started at Murray Callan when he was 9 months old. We loved the system and the instructors. Learning to swim at an early age is essential in Southern California.

Murray Callan is the best place to take your kids if you want a fun experience as well as rewarding. They don't just teach kids the water games, they teach every stroke while making it fun and entertaining for the children. I am amazed with how much my 2 daughters have learned while at Murray Callan. They have an amazing staff who's main goal is to make sure you are happy and enjoying your time with them.

My daughter almost drowned in front of my eyes. She had fallen off the step while waiting for her turn with the instructor. I literally stepped into the pool and grabbed her by the arm. I had enough of unfriendly staff and awful payment rules. On one occasion I had to pull out my 3 year old son screaming from the pool because he was wearing one swimming diaper instead two. My husband wasn't aware of this rule and they made us miss a class. Later I founded out that they have extra diapers in the back but never said anything.

I have 2 kids and they came to Murray Callan 8 months ago with very little swimming experience. We tried other schools but we finally found the right one. Over the past 8 months, my kids have become extremely comfortable with the water and are learning to swim the long way across the pool. I can�t believe how much they have learned. I know that the instructors and the very warm water have helped them advance so quickly. We are getting ready for their spring break from school and I am so excited for them to show off their new skills in the water.

Moms and dads are always looking for good activities for their kids and this is one I highly recomend. It can save your childs life. It's the best place in san diego for swimming -- I tried 2 other places and this one is best.

I just have to respond to a couple of the online comments I've seen posted about MCSS - mainly because I love it so much and I appreciate all that they do for kids and their families. Parents have complained about their kids having to wear swim pants!?!? Why would anyone oppose that? I want my kids safe and healthy so I support the swim diaper rule 100%.

I started my 2 kids awhile back and we all love the lessons so much. I have told friends and neighbors alike, some have started and others are planning on it. I just think that what they offer surpasses their competition. It is so refreshing to see such a dedicated family of three generations so involved with the parents, swim instructors, and students. They definitely take pride in their family business and in creating safe swimmers!

The Callan family facilities are both joyous places to spend a half hour with your kids. My two girls love the water because of their experience with the fun, patient teachers and the warm water. Everyday they ask me,

My brother and I swam with Murray Callan 35 years ago. Every summer for 7 years we went to Murray. We did elevators, swam for gumby and pokey, and would stand out of the pool with our toes on the edge practicing our "zippers". We loved going to swimm lessons with Murray and today we are extremely competent and comfortable swimmers in all strokes. We are also very fortunate to send our own children to MCSS. My daughter (3) began swimming with Karen at age 10months and my son (2) began swimming with Karen at 6 months. Both children are remarkable swimmers. They love swim lessons and are very comfortable and confident in the water. The greatest joy is to see their smiling faces as they come up from under water. It is a privelege for my children to be swimming 35 years later at Murray's school and to be learning in the same manner as Murray taught us. Because of Murray's style and approach to swimming I know my children will become excellent swimmers and learn to love the water. Thank you MCSS for continuing the legacy.

We have been taking our 2 1/2 year old son consistently since he was 6 months old. He is making excellent progress. Most importantly he instinctively knows to circle around in the water to get himself back to the edge of the pool. Critical safety skill in case he were ever to fall in a pool. Our son LOVES his instructor Karen. He even talks about her on the weekend by asking to "go swimming with Karen." She is truly wonderful with the children, and has a special bond with all of her students.

Yes Murray Callans swim school is expensive. Yes Murray Callans school has strict business policies. Yes Murray Callans parking can be a hassle, especially in summer. So why then for the past three years have I sent my children for swim lessons to Murray Callans? Because they are absolutely the best at what they do. . . teach children to swim!

As the parents of a 5 year old, a 3 year old, and a 1 year old life isn't always easy. When we found Murray Callan swim schools, and Brett Callan in particular, it made something as important and difficult as the kids learning to swim seem very simple. From the first time we came in until now, almost 4 years later, the staff has been nothing less than exceptional. The kids can't wait to get in the water and they are no longer afraid to push themselves and try new things. We couldn't be happier and we would, and do, recommend this school to anybody we know. My daughter has gone to Murray Callan in P.B. since before she could walk. She is just over 3 now and can swim the length of the pool underwater, coming up for breaths when she needs to. She has learned to swim to the bottom to grab a toy and feels confidant in the deep end and can get herself to the edge and get out on her own. The insructors have been great- some are just there while in college while others have been there for years. I have always felt comfortable asking to switch teachers if I didn't feel my daughter was progressing. As long as you inform them ahead of time, lessons can be made up for vacation etc. so you don't lose your time spot. The girls who work in the office are helpful and friendly and always call if you miss an appointment to see if everything is o.k. The lessons may seem slow paced for the money, but this approach seems to really build confidance in the swimmers and not rush them onto something they are not ready for. My nephews have gone to a different place and the whole class needs to be learning the same thing. Here it is a one on one lesson at that child's level. Only 3 students per class. Also, great for new parents looking for a way to meet other parents. I have met some great friends here. I believe you can start as young as 3 months, amazing to see a little baby swimming under water and smiling when they come up-

Murray Callan Swim School has been part of our family for over 5 years! Our children are 3 and 6 years old and are "poster children" for the San Marcos swim school. They travel with us every summer to Hawaii . . . one of our favorite pastimes when they were babies was freaking out the tourists with our amazing little swimmers. As a 5-year-old, Sierra had no problem with snorkeling in 30+ feet open waters amongst the tropical fish and turtles. Her other adventures include kayaking and surfing. Murray Callan Swim School not only teaches children how to swim, but they also give them confidence. As parents, we are thankful for having peace of mind when we are near the water. In addition, we are appreciative of the office and teaching staff. They are wonderful with the children and are extremely professional and courteous.

I took my 2 year old daughter for about 4 months last spring/summer - she loved the water but really did not learn much except to hold her breath - which I guess is not that bad. I will definitely go back this summer. Maybe now that she's 3 she will advance faster. Was anyone able to find out were Genesis went? She was the VERY GOOD!!

The owners are not interested in working with parents financially. Making up missed classes are almost impossible. And of course if you can't make them up there are no refunds. They suggest that you give your session to another student. What!!! The instructors seem tired and preoccupied, probably looking for another job. Students only end up getting four minutes of instruction in a half hour session. Not a lot of swim time. All in all nothing for your money..go elsewhere

Our pediatrician impressed upon us that swim instruction was an imperative, given that several of her patients had died over the previous summer - sadly victims of neighborhood pools. Our daughter was 2 to 2 1/2 yrs, and a bit precocious when she started her lessons at MC-San Marcos. She's now 3 months shy of 3 yrs of age and can swim the width of the pool. She has had two terrific instructors, whom she has responded to very well. Some of the staff are definitively a challenge to communicate with (perhaps a function of age/maturity). But since we are meeting the goal of teaching our child to survive falling into the water, and to develop a swimming proficiency, I would recommend Murray Callan. In any case, don't wait and do nothing.

Not sure how effective teaching a baby "to swim" really is. Our 15 month old took the nine lessons for $100 and still just wants to splash in the water. They say he needs more lessons. But I talked to a parent of another 15-month-old who has been going consistently since she was 3-months-old and said the baby doesn't really swim. They just go 'cause it's fun. I read some articles online that said that kids can't really learn to swim 'til they're around 4-years-old.
