Located in what was once the estate of La Jolla's great benefactress, Ellen Browning Scripps, the
Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) is situated on a perch overlooking the ocean near the
Children's Pool.
The stunning setting provides a dramatic backdrop to
a permanent collection of over 3,000 works by artists such as Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, and other modern greats. Budding young artists can find inspiration in the peaceful
Sculpture Garden and sweet treats in the
Museum Cafe.
Reluctant tagalongs can be appeased with a trip afterwards to the
La Jolla Recreation Center or any of the beaches just downhill, including the
La Jolla Cove and
Shell Beach.
The Museum has another location in
Downtown San Diego.
