The
Museum of Science and Industry is an extremely cool place for kids.
Museum highlights include the
Pioneer Zephyr 1933 train kids can pretend to ride; the
Coal Mine, where an elevator simulates a trip practically to the center of the earth, with a mining car to ride at the bottom; a real
German U-505 Submarine (the only German submarine captured by the US Navy during WWII, which features a guided on-board tour for an additional $5); and a
Baby Chick Hatchery.
Don't miss
The Idea Factory, which offers experiences for even the smallest scientists and
ToyMaker 300, a toy factory manned by 12 robots. Two
Omnimax films play daily on the five-story, domed screen and the
3-D Theater offers various shorter films every day as well. Special temporary exhibits are featured throughout the year, as are science demonstrations.
Family membership is $115/year.
