about Myrtle Edwards Park:

Myrtle Edwards Park is a long, narrow park that stretches three miles north of the waterfront and is popular with bicyclists and pedestrians. This is a nice urban park experience. The view of the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound is expansive and spectacular, but the fact that this park is in the city is always in evidence. Train tracks run parallel, a constant stream of air traffic flies overhead, and ships of all kinds ply the waterfront. Bike and pedestrian paths diverge at the park entrance, a welcome feature for those strolling with little ones or biking with kids. Grass, trees, gardens, and picnic tables along the path invite resting and nibbling. A public fishing pier is located about a mile down the path. The park is adjacent to Elliott Bay Park at its north end and Olympic Sculpture Park at the south end. The path is not shaded, and even on a mild spring day was rather hot in spite of the breeze off the water. We'd recommend bringing hats for the kids during the summer.

getting there:

Located at the far north end of the waterfront, where Broad Street meets Alaskan Way. From downtown, drive west, under the Alaskan Way Viaduct, to Alaskan Way, and head north. Park entrance is not marked; it's a driveway between Pier 70 (west side) and the train tracks (east side). You'll see the Waterfront Streetcar barn on the right; drive past the barn to the back parking lot and park entrance. Two-hour metered parking only. The front parking lot is next to the first stop of the Waterfront Streetcar.
