Myrtle Edwards Park is a long, narrow park that stretches three miles north of the waterfront and is popular with bicyclists and pedestrians. This is a nice
urban park experience. The view of the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound is expansive and spectacular, but the fact that this park is in the city is always in evidence. Train tracks run parallel, a constant stream of air traffic flies overhead, and ships of all kinds ply the waterfront.
Bike and pedestrian paths diverge at the park entrance, a welcome feature for those strolling with little ones or biking with kids. Grass, trees, gardens, and picnic tables along the path invite resting and nibbling. A
public fishing pier is located about a mile down the path. The park is adjacent to
Elliott Bay Park at its north end and
Olympic Sculpture Park at the south end. The path is not shaded, and even on a mild spring day was rather hot in spite of the breeze off the water. We'd recommend bringing hats for the kids during the summer.
