Mystic Seaport offers families an opportunity to climb aboard a historic tall ship, see a working shipyard in action, and take a horse and carriage ride through a recreated 19th-century seafaring village (complete with villagers). The Seaport is dotted with kid-friendly museums and experiences. Don't miss the children's museum (for kids ages seven and younger), where young sailors can swab the deck, move cargo, cook in the galley, dress in sailors’ garb, and "sleep" in ships’ bunks. Older children can check out the Discovery Barn, which offers interactive computer exhibits that include sail furling and learning to tie sailor's knots. The Seaport also offers a variety of classes for kids, including preschool classes, sailing classes (for ages eight to 14), planetarium programs, week-long summer day camp programs for children ages four and older, and overnight sailing camps for older children.
