If the National Heritage Museum isn't on your top ten list of family destinations, you may want to sneak a peek some time soon. The staff, recognizing the need to make the museum more family-friendly, has worked hard over the last five years to create an inviting and engaging environment for kids.
Inside are four galleries which house temporary and permanent exhibits. Each gallery provides a printed family guide to help explain areas of interest. A simulated colonial kitchen is sure to add a pinch of American flavor to your child's visit. Another popular destination is the library, a cozy spot for children to browse through its substantial (though non-lending) collection of children's books.
Special Events and Programs: In addition to exhibits, the museum hosts concerts, lectures, and preschool story hours. Its Second Saturday program features family entertainment, for which admission is charged.
The Heritage Shop offers shoppers reproductions, souvenirs, gifts, and books. Children, of course, will quickly find their way to the toys and candies.
If hunger strikes during your visit consider a stop at the Courtyard Cafe. This inviting family restaurant serves baked goods, soups, sandwiches, salad, and more from 11am-2pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
