Calling all Thomas the Train lovers: The Nevada Southern Railway, built in 1931 as a spur line off the main Union Pacific tracks through Las Vegas, serves as a larger-than-life version of Thomas. Families can ride the train and get a feel for the "olden days" when the railroad hauled equipment and construction supplies for the Boulder Canyon Project, later renamed Hoover Dam.
The museum also features a gift shop and outdoor interpretive exhibits.
Excursion trains run every Saturday and Sunday, and rides last about 45 minutes. Trains comprise a locomotive, a diesel-powered-generator car, two refurbished closed Pullman cars with air conditioning, an open-air-roofed car, and a closed car with a lift for handicapped travelers.
