Historic Newton - Jackson Homestead and Museum, which is accredited by the American Association of Museums, is housed at the Jackson Homestead. The Homestead, built in 1809, was home to the Jackson family, one of the earliest settlers of Newton. The Jackson Homestead property is a recognized site on the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom, as it served as a station on the Underground Railroad during the 19th century.
Donated to the city of Newton in 1949, the home is a museum and resource center for Newton history. Collections include archives, paintings, decorative arts, costumes, toys, photographs, and more. The museum sponsors an ongoing calendar of programs and events for children and adults throughout the year.
