Famed for its excellent customer service, Nordstrom delivers on children's clothes and shoes, too.

The infant and children's departments carry quality labels such as Mulberry Bush, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, and the store's own Pine Peak and Nordstrom Baby. This is a great place to buy a heartbreakingly gorgeous party dress for a little girl, or a perfect blue blazer for a little boy. The infant department also carries great-smelling Mustela baby bath and grooming products.

As befitting a store that started out selling shoes, the shoe department offers full-fitting services with skilled salespeople, and well-known brands like Elefanten, Hush Puppies, and Dr. Martens. Mini Tevas or rubber fireman boots? Tiny bowling shoes or Mary Janes with chunky soles? If they make them, this is the place to find them.

Kids fitted with their first pair of Stride-Rites at Nordstrom are presented with a picture of the event and a Nordy stuffed toy. Check online for a wider selection of kids' shoes than are carried in the store.

Look in the Brass Plum and Brass Plum Shoes for shoes, accessories, and clothes for teen girls. The Young Men's department carries mostly casual clothes - Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and similar brands.

Nordstrom also has a great maternity department, including such hip brands as Citizens of Humanity, Juicy Couture, and Liz Lange.

Prices aren't cheap, but the wide selection, no-hassle returns, and intelligent customer service make it worthwhile.
