The Norfolk Botanical Garden is a 155-acre garden filled with thousands of plants. More than thirty themed gardens are spread across site. Some gardens focus on a single plant (camellias, hydrangeas, roses), others look at a plant from a specific region (Japan, Virginia), while others provide homeowners with great ideas and or new plants to use in their own garden.
Of particular interest to families is the WOW Children's Garden. The three-acre garden is dedicated to families and children. WOW has several distinct areas, each offering different interactive lessons, but all offering excitement, enrichment, and entertainment. Highlights include World Plaza, where kids can splash their way through fountains, bubblers, foggers, and jet sprays; Discovery Peak, featuring plants from different continents; The Dirt Factory, where kids can dig, climb, and explore; Plant Safari, featuring a huge sundial, calendar, and nearly an acre of wetlands, forests, grassland, and desert areas; Passport Gardens, where kids can explore different habitats from around the world and learn about the people who live there; and Exploration Station, an indoor classroom that is an ideal site for nature camps and birthday parties, and a unique amphitheatre is perfect for family-oriented concerts and performances. There are restrooms and vending machines in this area.
The garden offers year-round nature programs for families and children, as well as summer camps for kids ages four through 13. There are also a number of birthday party packages for members.
