The choir, composed of 200 girls and young women, ages seven to 18, is an internationally recognized performing arts group that performs mainstage concerts every season, plus community performances and guest appearances with other local choirs and singers. The choir makes trips to national choral festivals and competitions, and has recorded several CDs.
Participants are taught to sing and perform, with an emphasis on the development of self-esteem and confidence. The choir is divided into five progressively-graded ensembles that are filled through an audition process. Auditions for new members are by appointment; the process involves individual auditions and interviews.
Northwest Girlchoir also offers summer camp programs for girls entering Kindergarten and first grade. Camp topics vary each year and use songs, stories, poetry, dance, musical instruments, visual art, and drama to explore different aspects of a theme.
