The Museum also operates the NY Transit Museum Annex at Grand Central Terminal and three unique museum stores.
Birthday parties may be held at the Museum on Saturdays and Sundays between 11am and 12:30pm or 2:30pm to 4pm. In addition to a guided tour of the museum and its interactive exhibits, kids also get to showcase their creative talents in an age-appropriate workshop. Party fee is $300 for 12 children (ages four and up) and four adults. ($15 per additional child, up to 20 children maximum. Extra adults pay regular museum admission.)

The transit museum does not accomodate strollers. One must walk down two flights of steps to buy tickets, then another to visit the trains.
My 3 year old LOVES trains, but we never imagined that he'd enjoy the museum as much as he did. It's been about 6 months since we were there, and he still asks me weekly, if we can go back! I had a blast, too. I kind of wanted to go back, without my son, to have the time to really read up on all the history and see the displays that are a little too "boring" for small children. It was very interesting. We'll be back, for sure.
The transit museum was great -- my 5 year-old is a train fanatic, so we expected him to enjoy it (he did), but the adults in our group thoroughly enjoyed it as well. The staff there is great -- they were friendly and knowledgeable and took time to point out highlights of the museum. We'll definitely be back.
