Oak Mountain State Park is Alabama's largest state park. Its 10,000 acres are dedicated to golf, mountain bike trails, swimming, fishing, boating, horseback riding, hiking, overnight accommodations, a petting zoo, and a lakeside beach.
The Treetop Nature Trail, an elevated walkway through the woods, offers close-up views of unreleasable hawks and owls in natural habitat enclosures.
The Wildlife Center, situated on a ridge at the head of the valley, cares for nearly 3,000 injured and orphaned wild birds, mammals and reptiles annually, returning as many as possible to the wild. Visitors are able to view the rehabilitation facilities through one-way glass windows.
