At the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum, visitors find three floors of models and interactive displays illustrating the story of offshore oil and gas, from seismic technology to exploration and production. Scale models of production platforms, actual drill bits, remotely-operated vehicles (ROVs), videos, and exhibits explain drilling, geology, seismic, well servicing, and production.
Families can also board a retired drilling rig and see a video about the offshore industry. For an "only in Houston" experience, take the skywalk out onto the drill floor of the rig.
Note: Ocean Star is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

getting there:
From Houston, take I-45 South to Galveston Island.
Immediately after crossing the causeway onto the Island, take the Harborside Drive exit. Turn left on Harborside and follow it to the public parking lots at the intersection of Harborside and 21st Street. The Ocean Star entrance is on the east end of Pier 20. From Harborside Drive, you will see the Ocean Star on your left.
