Constructed in 1929 as part of Route 66, Chain of Rocks Bridge is one mile in length - the world's longest pedestrian and bicycle bridge. A rocky area in the Mississippi River gave the bridge its name.
The bridge's most striking feature is its 22-degree turn in the middle; the two Gothic castle-like structures standing in the river just south of the bridge are pretty unusual, too. The bridge offers fantastic views of the St. Louis skyline, the Confluence Greenway, and the Mississippi River.
