about Old State House Museum:
The Old State House Museum is not just old, it has the distinction of being the oldest public building in Boston. At one time it was the home of both the colonial British Government and the Massachusetts Assembly. On July 18, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was read publicly here for the first time. Every year since then on July 4th, the Declaration of Independence is read from the very same spot.
If the kids complain about all the stops along the Freedom Trail, we understand. But see if you can convince them to hit this one; it boasts a lot of "firsts" in American history your kids will probably appreciate.
