It wasn't long ago that
Old Town Pasadena was just that - old, run-down, and neglected.
Today, the area is one of the
San Gabriel Valley's hotest entertainment districts, thanks to the city's restoration efforts during the 1990s, as well as the neighborhood's countless restaurants, open-air cafes, upscale shopping, movie theaters, galleries, and nightclubs.
Most venues here find homes within
rustic brick buildings dating from the turn of the 20th century or in structures that sport amazing Art Deco-style facades. The district hosts all kinds of
community events throughout the year, including the zany Doo-Dah Parade and the world-famous Tournament of Roses Parade every New Year's Day.
The heart of Old Town is
One Colorado, which is a good place to take kiddies who need to expel some energy.
Old Town is home to Barnes & Noble, Pottery Barn, Gap, H&M, Apple Store, Banana Republic, J. Crew, Crate and Barrel, The Container Store, Urban Outfitters, Paper Source, Restoration Hardware, and Patagonia, among many other shopping attractions.
Restaurants here include Il Fornaio, Johnny Rockets, Barney's Beanery,
Buca di Beppo, Manny's Pizzeria, Louise's Trattoria, and
Cheesecake Factory.
Pasadena Heritage offers
walking tours of Old Town on the second Saturday of each month; reservations are required: 626.441.6333.
