About Old Town School of Folk Music
A not-for-profit organization, the Old Town School of Folk Music offers kids' classes in music, dance, art and theater as well as private lessons to accommodate individual goals.
Children's classes run eight or 16 weeks, and are forty-five minutes to one hour in length.
Teen classes are just for students ages 11-18, and are offered during afterschool and weekend hours. All classes meet once a week, and most are 80 minutes in length, in a relaxed group atmosphere of eight to twelve students. Most teen music classes cost $90 for 8 weeks of classes; theater classes run 16 weeks.
Starlight: Teen Open Mic at the Old Town School takes the stage from 7pm to 10pm on the second Friday of every month. Call for information or to be added to the teen open mic mailing list. This new monthly event is a showcase for musicians, actors, and audience members. Come to participate or watch, and check out what the Old Town School is all about. The school provides the auditorium, stage, sound equipment, and snacks; you provide the entertainment. At the 909 W. Armitage Avenue location.
Birthday Parties: Kids can "wiggle" and jam at their next birthday party, or you can hire a kid's performer to attend your next family-oriented social event. Call Jenna Murfin at 773.751.3326 to book your favorite teacher. The Referral Service can also provide anything from classical, to blues, to latin music and more.
Summer camp programs, including music and theatre camps, are open to children ages six through 10.

- Old Town has a wide variety of classes and shows for kids and adults alike. In fact, now that I'm back in Chicago, I can't wait to take a guitar class there as well!

[Submitted by Auntie Ash5/27/09 - ...been atending Wiggleworms classes since he was 6 months old, and he's had a great time! He crawled with the other babies and now runs with the other toddlers, and is learning to love music with the help of his amazing teachers, Fred and Elaine.

[Submitted by Anonymous10/12/07 - I have been to concerts at Old Town School--including kids shows(dan zanes, they might be giants) before I had a kid-I'm a really cool Auntie. But I recently took my 7 month old and was amazed and thrilled--(I admit I was doing it for myself to meet other moms, and they did turn out to be surprisingly friendly) at how much my little guy loved wiggleworms. He gets so excited. I choked up!Super nice teachers, friendly reception staff, clean bathrooms. I have been to the Lincoln Square location and the Evanston. My guy loved the parachute the teacher brought out, the other babies and the GUITAR oh boy--the guitar was a hit.
