about Orange County Model Engineers:

The Orange County Model Engineers operate the Mackerel Flats and Goat Hill Junction Railroad - a seven and a half inch gauge railroad over a five mile layout of track at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa.

A typical trip takes about 12 minutes and covers two loops of the park, taking in bridges and terrain variations that include the back of the Costa Mesa Golf Course. There are generally plenty of birds, squirrels, and rabbits to be spotted along the way as well, as the park is a wild life preserve.

The non-profit club opens its trains to the public for rides the third weekend of every month. The ride-on trains are also available for birthday parties on Saturdays. Parties require a minimum donation to the club of $150. Reservations should be made well in advance at 949.548.7246.

getting there:

Fairview Park is on Placentia Avenue, between Adams on the north and Wilson on the south. The nearest highway exit is the Harbor exit from the 405; head south on Harbor and turn right on Adams or Wilson to get to the Placentia entrance.
