A great outdoor destination for families, Pacific Park is a restored boardwalk-like amusement park on top of the Santa Monica Pier, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Guests pay only for the rides they use in this non-gated park, which features a 9-story tall, solar-powered Ferris wheel, an oceanfront rollercoaster that rises five stories above the water, ten other family rides, midway games, a food plaza, and boutiques.

Pay as you go for individual rides ($2-$5). Best value is the all day ride wrist band: $16.95-$24.95 ages eight and up, and $12.95-$15.95 for anyone under eight years old. Purchasing online in advance costs less than at the pier, especially on weekends.

With ten guests or more families can host a child's birthday party in an oceanfront cabana, with fees starting at $23 per child (all-inclusive).
