Park Explorers Day Camp457

My daughter has attended Park Explorer's Day Camp as well as other neighborhood camps and for her, this is the camp of choice. It has just enough go time and just enough down time, is low stress, high fun and easy to get to. The trips are fun, the day trips are interesting and the gymnastics and theatre programs are a hit.

My two children love Park Explorers. This coming summer will be their 4th straight year. They love the trips, swimming and gymnastics best. They also talked nonstop about the overnights. They love seeing their friends and counselors year after year. I also like the flexible extended day option. I think the program is terrific and we are thrilled with Park Explorers.

They leave a lot to be desired in terms of organization. They also foster a much more competitive environment than we were happy with--winners and awards etc in certain activities. Finally, they have absolutely nothing to do w/ exploring the park--it's just another standard-issue day camp. I wish they had really spent the day using all the park had to offer instead of sweltering on yellow school buses to yet another destination.

I'm sure that, as long as all goes according to plan, and as long as you know where and when the buses are stopping (as opposed to where they're SUPPOSED to stop) you'll be fine. But when my daughter got sick, they really dropped the ball, and the same thing happened every other time that we deviated from the expected. It was bad enough that I pulled my daughter out of the third week. I had completely lost confidence in them.

Our son has been going to Park Explorers for four summers now, and it's been great. The counselors are wonderful -- sweet, funny, very engaged with the kids; the camp director is both extremely safety-conscious and aware of what kids consider fun; the variety of experiences is tremendous. As the name suggests, our son spends a lot of time exploring various parks, in Brooklyn and around the area (Staten Island, Manhattan, New Jersey). In addition, every week he goes to the pool; to the beach; to karate; to gymnastics; and one day a week on a trip, to such places as amusement parks and tubing down the Delaware River (the latter was his particular favorite this year). The camp also puts on camp shows, has a carnival, has a camp Olympics, and has an end-of-year barbeque.

I went to Park Explorers as a camper for 6 years. As a camper, I had the best time, from the pool to the beach to trips to just plain dodgeball, and everything is active and entertaining.

My daughter went to Park Explorers for 3 years. This year she decided to finally go to sleepaway camp. She loved Park Explorers and had a great time, since most of the activities were in Prospect Park. They work out of a Church on 8th Avenue that has a huge rec room. The trips were great. My daughter loved Great Adventure. The staff is diverse in there skills and talents. Some are soccer player, some gymnasts, some swimmers. Chris, the director, does a great job making sure that each child is getting the proper attention and support. She is always there for them. If your child loves being in Prospect Park and being outdoors, you have the right place.
