A neighborhood that is anchored by the historic Pasadena Playhouse, the Pasadena Playhouse District also encompasses Vroman's Bookstore, the Boston Court Performing Arts Complex, Laemmle Playhouse 7 Movie Theatre, the Pacific Asia Museum, City Hall, and many cafes, restaurants, and independently owned shops. The District developed primarily during the late 1920s and into the 1930s, and it still retains many of the original buildings built during this period. A significant portion of the area was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Visitors can take a self-guided walking tour with the help of a brochure provided by the Playhouse District Association.
