Founded in 1928, just prior to the Great Depression, by conductor Reginald Bland, the orchestra has a history of diverse programming, musical excellence, exceptional artistic leadership, and deep community support.
In addition to the
Pasadena Symphony's annual concert series at the
Pasadena Civic Auditorium, the orchestra produces an array of educational programs, including TEMPO!, an in-depth, year-long, in-school program for elementary schools that is designed to complement traditional classroom curriculum; mentoring programs, which match gifted instrumental students from area schools with mentors from the Symphony; and the admission-free
Musical Circus, which introduces youngsters to classical music instruments followed by an age appropriate concert.
The Pasadena Symphony and The Pasadena Pops are "sister-orchestras" under the Pasadena Symphony Association, and between them they offer
education programs that include The Science of Sound for Middle School children in LA Unified and Pasadena Unified districts, and a Side by Side by Symphony program in the summer.
