about Pelham Bay Park:

Located in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx, Pelham Bay Park is the city's largest park, covering over 2700 acres of woodland.

The southernmost section (most accessible to public transportation), includes tennis courts, ballfields, playgrounds, picnic spots, a visitors' center, and a track and field facility that sometimes doubles as a football field.

The park has plenty of water views, including the Long Island Sound, Eastchester Bay, Hutchinson River, a lagoon, Turtle Grove, and saltwater marshes. But its most famous watering hole is Orchard Beach.

The park is also home to a full service equestrian facility, the Bronx Equestrian Center.

getting there:

By subway: 6 train to Pelham Bay Park. By car: From the south: take I-95 (Bruckner Expressway) North. Get off at Exit 8B (Orchard Beach/City Island). Pass the war memorial, over the Pelham bridge, and make the first right at the traffic light immediately following the drawbridge (taking the yield sign), to City Island Road. Continue to the Traffic circle and follow the traffic circle three quarters of the way around, following the signs for Orchard Beach.
