Founded by Mary Chase Stratton in 1903 during the Arts and Crafts Movement,
Pewabic Pottery is nationally known for its use of unique glazes on its
tile and pottery.
Pewabic pieces have become very collectible, and they adorn fine homes, churches, schools, and museums throughout the Midwest. See
Pewabic installations at the main branch of the
Detroit Public Library,
Comerica Park, and at many
People Mover stations.
Pewabic Pottery has a gallery and gift shop and gives group tours by appointment ($5/person). The center also offers youth
classes, workshops, and summer camps for children ages six and up.
