Still known to many as Quail Botanical Gardens, the 30-acre San Diego Botanic Garden features plants indigenous to California in 24 separate gardens ranging from desert to tropical, sub-tropical, and Mediterranean. The rain forest is a visitor favorite, as is the Victorian gazebo and English style "secret" garden.
For most children, the award-winning Seeds of Wonder interactive garden is the best part of the Gardens. Children can roll down a grassy hill, explore the baby dinosaur forest, discover a secret garden, and pretend in a playhouse.
The Hamilton Children's Garden hosts a variety of programs for kids and families, as well as a sculpture garden and a lizard hunt. The Children's Garden is open from 9am to 5pm and included with the normal admission price.
Enjoy the sounds of the cascading waterfall or the views from the overlook pavilion. Picnic areas are provided and a gift shop offers many botanical themed goodies and plants.
Birthday parties, summer camps, and concerts are also held in this beautiful location. Call or visit the web site for more details.

tips:
Free admission the first Tuesday of every month. Also, not all areas are accessible by stroller.
getting there:
From I-5, exit on Encinitas Boulevard. Go east 1/2 mile. Turn left on Quail Gardens Drive. The entrance to The Gardens is on the left.
