reDiscover is a unique community resource with a variety of programs for young children. Operating out of the former home of popular Westside arts program
SmART Space,
reDiscover collects and re-purposes unusual surplus supplies from local businesses. Plastic spools, colorful and odd-shaped blocks of wood, even giant magnets -
reDiscover collects and sorts them by the box load, then invites the school-aged community to come up with things to make from it all.
Educators and parents are welcome to
shop for cool, inexpensive art supplies during open warehouse hours, when kids can sit down and create from anything they see for $5. Saturday
drop-in craft hours are generally held year-round.
The bright and spacious front studio area is used for field trips and classes, during which volunteers encourage visiting youngsters to let their imaginations run wild with the odd-shaped treasures. The space is also available for
birthday parties - a great alternative to buying a big pile of non-eco-friendly craft supplies from an internet supplier who shall remain nameless.
The
reDiscover holds special events throughout the year - including
camps - for children to create and explore in the warehouse. The center can also be found once a month at
Mar Vista Farmers Market and other local festivals throughout the year.
reDiscover welcomes volunteers from the community.
