about Redwood Recreation Center:

The Redwood Recreation Center offers a full spectrum of sports and recreation activities, as well as a computer lab with free classes. The classes range from basic to advanced levels. Five acres of open field space was added just east of the building during the center's 2008 remodel.

Basketball is a favorite activity in the indoor gymnasium. When the gym isn't scheduled for something else, Open Gym is offered. The fitness/weight room is available to patrons who are at least 16 years old. Children under the age of 16 can take an hour-long course that provides a them with a Youth Weight Room Certificate. Use of the basketball court and weight room is inexpensive; see the website for details.

A few sports programs just for three to five year olds are available, including Rookie League Tee-Ball, First Kicks Soccer, Itty-Bitty Kickball, and Itty-Bitty Basketball. All programs are four-session instructional leagues designed to introduce the game and emphasize fundamentals in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

Youth sports offerings include Jr. Jazz Basketball (runs throughout the year), Seniors League Jr. Jazz Basketball, indoor and outdoor soccer, Special Olympics soccer, tennis, NFL Flag Football, Jr. Golf, Youth Accelerated Softball, and Jr. Racquetball.

Most of Redwood Recreation Center's youth sports programs have an income based fee program for individuals and families that qualify for reduced or free lunches at school.

Online registration is available for many of the center's programs at www.activityreg.com. People can also register and check prices and availability by phone or in person at the recreation center.

Classes, and clinics at Redwood Recreation Center include scrapbooking, dance (ages 6-12), cheerleading (ages six and up), self-defense/karate (ages five to adult), arts and crafts, and open recreation (arts, crafts, games, sports, and activities for children ages 6-12). After school and summer programs are available. Some specific summer offerings include Super Summer (a summer camp featuring arts, crafts, games, sports, educational activities, and swimming), and Field Trip Frenzy.

Racquetball courts can be used for leagues and open play. Memberships are inexpensive and include unlimited play and advance reservations. Learn to Play family lessons can be arranged, as well as individual lessons.

The outdoor pool is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Swimming lessons and open plunge are available all summer long. Lessons and pool admission are inexpensive. The pool can be rented for private parties. Call for more information or for pool hours. The pool can be accessed from the north parking lot.

The following sports leagues are offered: Spring and Fall Girl's Accelerated Softball, Spring and Fall Men's, Women's, and Co-ed Softball, Year-round Men's and Women's Basketball, Outdoor and Indoor Women's Soccer, and Adult Dodgeball.

Birthday parties packages are inexpensive (less than $50) and include a private, decorated room for one hour, food and drinks for eight kids, a shirt for the birthday child, plates, napkins, cups, and admission to the rec center for eight children and two adults. Call for reservations.

A multi-use trail takes off across Lester Street from the parking lot and meanders through the Redwood Nature Area, connecting with the Jordan River Parkway.
