The writers' community, located in a 1902 Victorian house, also offers a couple of programs for young writers. Scribes, a two-week intensive summer writing program for youths ages 15-18, is led by professional writers. Class members meet every day, working with established writers to learn about writing, research and community. They publish selected works in a zine and participate in at least one public reading.
Applications (available online) are due in July. Scholarships are available.
StageFright Open Mike nights are held once per month, and are run primarily by youth for youth. Youth ages 14-24 read their poetry and prose, sing, play music, or just come to listen.
