about Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestras:

The primary purpose of the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestras is to provide the finest quality symphonic training and performance opportunities for young musicians in the Richmond metropolitan communities. The RSYOs strives to emulate a professional environment that promotes advanced musical education and the presentation of beautiful symphonic music to all residents. The Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestras was created in the spring of 1962, and is the oldest youth orchestra in Virginia. Leaders of the newly formed Richmond Symphony partnered with Richmond Public Schools to offer music students the opportunity to participate in a full orchestra experience and provide an exemplary orchestral experience for young musicians. Today the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestras provides quality musical opportunities for young musicians through high school age. Over 250 school-age musicians from within a 100-mile radius of Richmond rehearse weekly with one of the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestras four ensembles during the school year. The RSYO is in the forefront of the local arts community with a busy concert schedule that includes fall, winter, and spring concerts for all of its ensembles.
