about Rock Creek Park:
Special features in the park for children include the National Zoo, the Nature Center and the Planetarium, but you'll almost certainly find your own favorite thing to do while wallowing in the naturalness of it all!
Drop by Thompson's Boat House to rent a boat you can paddle or row along the Potomac, or a bicycle (16" and 18" frames only) so you can explore the park on wheels.
The Rock Creek Horse Center offers trail rides on horses (ages 12 and up) and ponies (kids over 30" tall), if you call to reserve in advance.
Rock Creek Tennis Center (16th & Kennedy) has indoor and outdoor courts, a tennis stadium, ample free parking, a snack bar, and a pro shop. It hosts the Legg Mason Tennis Classic every August.
Linnean Hill, or the Pierce-Klingle Mansion, is located in the park at 3545 Williamsburg Lane. This large stone farmhouse now serves as the headquarters for the Park's superintendent.
Peirce Barn, at Beach Drive and Tilden, was originally built in 1820, and offers kids six and older a taste of 19th-century life as millstones grind corn and wheat into flour.
The Old Stone House, one of the oldest known structures remaining in the nation's capital, is a simple 18th-century dwelling built and inhabited by common people, and another lovely picnic spot. Its beautiful English garden is pesticide-free; the house proper is a popular museum that covers the everyday life of middle class colonial America.
