We like Rockne's because its menu is varied enough and good enough to satisfy most families, from toddlers to grandparents. We've noshed at nearly half of the local chain's 11 locations, and have found the food uniformly good and the staff uniformly friendly and efficient. We've never had to ask for a high chair or booster seat, and the kids' menus and crayons usually land on the tabletop before our feet are under the table. When nobody feels like cooking, we like to call Rockne's for a carryout order - the whole menu is available that way. There are seven selections from which to choose on the kids' menu, for ages 10 and under. Kids' meals are $3.99, and they include a drink and "dessert." (It's just a bag of cookies, but the kids have never complained.) Rockne's also offers a "Birthday Club," whereby you furnish your child's birthday, and she/he receives a postcard offer for a free "birthday" meal (which can be redeemed for about two months from the actual birthdate). Grownups like a lot of items on the menu here, from the "souper" bowls to stir fries and always-fresh salads. Kids never fail to say, when asked about their favorite item, "the French fries!" Well, pass the ketchup.
