Rooftop is a K-8 public alternative elementary school located on two sites (the Burnett Campus, which houses K-4 and the Mayeda Campus, which houses 5-8) on the eastern slope of Twin Peaks.
Rooftop offers a quiet and contained environment for learning. It has created a friendly, supportive learning environment that emphasizes student self-worth and self-image in a structured environment.
Rooftop's academic program is well defined and innovatively presented by dedicated teachers. From kindergarten through the eight grade children learn necessary skills in a sequential manner and are also given the opportunity to pursue and develop special interests. Programs in art, music, and drama are considered an integral part of the
Rooftop experience. Parent participation is expected.
Rooftop is a laboratory school for San Francisco State University, and a California Distinguished School. It has also received the San Francisco School Volunteers Honor Roll of School Award. Redbook Magazine named Rooftop the top public elementary school in California.
