The Salt Lake Dance Center offers a wide variety of instruction for kids ages three to 17. It was founded in 1983 by Jillana Hess Webb, whose career includes training and performing with the New York City Ballet, the Chicago Opera Ballet, and Ballet West. The Salt Lake Dance Center has a year-round program of ballet and pre-ballet, as well as jazz, hip-hop, and tap. The website provides a complete list of classes, schedules, and prices.
Every summer, the Salt Lake Dance Center offers a summer dance camp called Dance Splash. The two-week professional dance camp, for kids ages eight to 18, ends with a swim party. Participants must have two years of experience. Guest instructors include Alexia Hess-Sheehan, former New York City Ballet soloist, and Thayne Jasperson of Odyssey Dance. Curriculum includes ballet, jazz, lyrical, character, tap, and hip-hop. The camp is offered in mid June.
Other summer offerings include beginning, intermediate, and advanced level classes in ballet, jazz, lyrical, and hip-hop. Pre-ballet for kids ages three to eight is also available. For serious dancers, a Pre-professional Camp is offered in early July, by audition only. The camp focuses on technique, performance, and audition skills. Fairytale Workshops, for kids ages four to seven, are a week-long creative dance experience. In the workshops, children are given opportunities to see what it's like to be Snow White, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, and Arial. Dates vary.
