about San Diego Bay Ferry:

A fun way to get about town is to use the San Diego Bay Ferry. The Ferry leaves from the Broadway Pier commercial boat area located on San Diego Bay and takes 20 minutes to reach The Ferry Landing Place on Coronado Island. Restrooms are available on board. Riders may sit indoors or enjoy the sunshine and wind in their face on the upper deck.

The Ferry Landing Marketplace houses a collection of shops and restaurants, most with a nautical theme. At the Ferry Landing you can either connect to the local Trolley system or rent a bike there at Bicycles and Beyond.

Bikes are allowed on the ferry for a $0.50 fee and are a great idea to bring along for exploring Coronado.

A few minutes ride south along the bay you will find Tidelands Park which has the distinction of being at the foot of the Coronado Bridge. You may want to pedal over to Spreckels Park on summer Sunday evenings for free concerts in the park. The Silver Strand Beach and Hotel Del Coronado on the Pacific coast side of the island are worth a visit as well.

You may also want to pedal over to the Silver Strand Beach and enjoy the long strip of sandy beaches that look out over the seemingly endless Pacific Ocean. Forgot to pack a picnic? No problem. Dozens of small cafes dot the main road in this pristine island community and make picking up a sandwich easy.

Whether you're crossing for a day or just to see San Diego from its best vantage point - the water - the ferry is a great way to go.

tips:

This can be the start of a great day trip for the kids. Bring a picnic and head off to Glorietta Bay Park for a day of outdoor family fun. If you stick to the bike path by the bay you can actually ride underneath the Coronado Bridge.

getting there:

Harbor Drive runs parallel to the San Diego Airport and can be reached from many directions. Find the Airport and head South.
