San Elijo State Beach Campground campground is rather oddly squeezed on a three-quarter mile strip of land between the highway, railroad tracks, and the great blue sea. The developed side of the site doesn't deter visitors though, as
over 500,000 guests visit annually!
This state campground offers 171 spaces for
tents or RVs up to 35 feet long, with picnic tables, fire grills, and fresh water.
Flush toilets and showers are supplied in the new family-style restrooms. A dump station and full hookups are available for RVs. A small store is also on site. Several of the sites are handicapped accessible as is the store.
A
campfire center and mini-amphitheatre give rangers a place to present lectures about the surrounding area and animal life. Six
trails lead down to the beach. A public parking lot is located at the north end of the property for day use parking for surfers.
Nearby
San Elijo Lagoon is an ecological preserve where egrets, herons, and a variety of marine birds can be seen from a small network of trails leading from the campgrounds.
Pets are allowed on leashes at the campground but not on the beach.
