About Santa Monica Playhouse

This 92-seat Santa Monica Playhouse has a regular schedule of original musical theater for children on weekends. Check our calendar for information.

Workshop classes are available for kids, beginning at preschool age, and continuing through the teen years. Workshops run year round, with one or more days a week from October through June, and a daily summer theater camp in July and August.

And, if you're looking for an unusually theatrical birthday party, Santa Monica Playhouse offers its whole theater to groups of ten or more, an hour before the show. Cast members will entertain and lead age-appropriate games, and serve the birthday cake. Then, during the show, the cast will call the birthday child on stage, for a special birthday song! After the final curtain call, the cast passes out the goodie bags, and everyone heads for home, delighted.

The Playhouse provides the decorations, paper goods and goodie bags; you provide the cake, and any other food. They'll clean up, but charge $10 extra if there is food other than cake.

Birthday party costs: Children $19.50; adults $12.50.

Tips

Check out the Third Street Promenade, just one block away, for pre- and post theater dining and shopping!

Getting There

Take the Lincoln Blvd. exit off the 10 Freeway, go straight to Fourth Street, and take a right. The Playhouse is on Fourth between Arizona and Wilshire. Parking is available in the #1 public parking structure across the street; the first two hours are free.

My kid loved it. However, be prepared for a middle-aged Cinderella and Prince... Both good actors but my daughter thought the prince looked like her grandpa.

The best of the best. The best shows, the best workshops, the best people. Everyone there is so friendly and the atmosphere is always warm. Recommended for any age group, indefinitely.

A wonderful place for little and big kids alike. The plays are fun and unusual twists on familiar stories. The theater classes/camps are terrific. The program for older kids is enriching beyond any that I have encountered anywhere else. The travel programs to Japan and the United Kingdom and elsewhere are life-changing.
