My kid loved it. However, be prepared for a middle-aged Cinderella and Prince... Both good actors but my daughter thought the prince looked like her grandpa.

The best of the best. The best shows, the best workshops, the best people. Everyone there is so friendly and the atmosphere is always warm. Recommended for any age group, indefinitely.

A wonderful place for little and big kids alike. The plays are fun and unusual twists on familiar stories. The theater classes/camps are terrific. The program for older kids is enriching beyond any that I have encountered anywhere else. The travel programs to Japan and the United Kingdom and elsewhere are life-changing.

Every show is a winner. The children's theater is fantastic - the best children's theater I have ever seen.

i really believe that this is the perfect place to introduce your young ones to theatre. ***ALSO: they have absolutely amazing ADULT PERFORMANCES TOO!!**** the run of Audition the musical has just ended but if you're lucky, you will see a show with a BUFFET! and the food is to die for.

My son has participated in the Santa Monica Playhouse workshops for the past two years. In addition to being immensely enjoyable, the experience has helped improve his self-confidence and oral presentation skills. I highly recommend the Playhouse workshops as a great way to introduce your kids to the theatre.

Santa Monica Playhouse presents completely original, professional, and stunning musical theater and plays that are entertaining and inspiring for both adults and young people. SMP's Family Theater is tailored to be enjoyable for even very young children to adults, with humor for all. What could possibly be better than bonding with your child at a live theater event?!? But the Playhouse is so much more. Their workshops for young people are incredibly educational in so many ways. In fact, both of my daughters have been involved in their workshops and their experiences at the Playhouse have been transforming for our entire family. The education our young people receive at SMP is an integral part of who they are and who we hope they become. Every time they walk down the brick patio toward the Playhouse, I can sense the pride they carry with them, which they've learned and received from the magical staff at the Playhouse. They treat young people to a very broad range of specific tools needed to progress in theater, but more important, in life. I don't think there is a task my children are not up to, thanks to the confidence and knowledge they've gained from their studies at SMP. It is one of best ways to keep a young person engaged and a part of something outside of school, because there is so much to be gleaned from what they are offered. They will take the lessons they learn at SMP and use them to advance their school experience. Students of all ages are given the tools they need to be up to whatever task they are faced with, and believe me, this extends to all areas of their lives. They are challenged, they learn to take risks, but they are safe. The environment is very positive and enlightening, for body, mind, and soul. And, THE YOUNG PEOPLE LOVE IT! It's fun. Don't miss out on offering your young person the opportunity to participate in SMP's programs. Their goal at Santa Monica Playhouse is to put the human back in humanity, and they do. We need this place for our young people. They are the future!

The plays are "top notch" quality! They are enjoyable for kids and adults of all ages! The productions are interesting and creative. The theater itself is adorable and charming. A wonderful place to go!!!

We saw "Away We Go" and the kids loved the audience participation. The show was a lot of fun and kept the kids interest the whole time. The cast greeted the audience before and after the show and was very friendly. Overall a great way to introduce kids to theatre.

First, for the theater - it's a small place that's very intimate. They are raising funds to find a permanent location, but the one they are in now works fine. I had a couple problems with the performance I saw there which might have been specific to the show, but here goes anyways. I attended the Cinderella show with my daugher (then 34 months) - I must say she said she liked it; but, I thought the original music/lyrics while cute and clever were way over her head. There were a lot of lyrics that went by so fast _I_ could barely understand them, let alone my 2 yr old. Also, some of the singing quality from one of the main characters left a lot to be desired (it was hard for me to sit through), but as casts may rotate, etc. this criticism may be inaccurate for future performances of this show. Also, be absolutely sure to call before attending to ensure ticket availability. A few weeks ago, we made the mistake of just showing up, only to be told there was no performance at the normal time (it was private show for a party, I believe)
