about Santa Monica Public Library - Main Library:
Santa Monica's newly remodeled Main Branch Library has a lot to offer. The Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium is outside the main doors and has plenty of family programming, while inside the children's area has another large event room for storytimes and other fun.
The central court area has a cafe with outdoor seating (watch out for that tempting little stream that sends many kids home with soggy socks!) to enjoy a full meal, ice cream, or just coffee. A kids' menu is available.
California residents may sign up for free library cards. Applications are available at any Santa Monica Public Library branch. Applications are also available online, and, if approved, are ready for pick-up by the next business day at the Main Library's Customer Service Desk; ID and proof of current, California residence are required.
The Santa Monica Public Library offers free wireless access to the Internet at all branches.
tips:
The Main Library is just a few blocks from Santa Monica's famed Third Street Promenade and the Santa Monica Pier.
getting there:
Cross streets are 6th and 7th. Take the Lincoln Boulevard exit off the 10 Freeway, head North on Lincoln, turn west (left) on Santa Monica. Parking (fifty cents per half hour, ten dollar daily maximum) is available underground, with an entrance on 7th street.
